FAQs

Can I log in with my existing Architizer username & password?

We have updated our system, and you must now use your Architizer login credentials to access your account. Please sign in through Architizer or create a new account.

What file types can I submit?

Each file uploaded should be a maximum size of 15mb file size. JPEGs are recommended, though PNGs and PDFs are acceptable. For image quality we recommend an image size of at least 1500 pixels wide at 72 dpi.

What dimensions should my photo have?

Submit 1 image with a minimum width of 1500 pixels. Your image can be square, portrait or landscape in its proportion, but we recommend avoiding extremely thin or extremely long images so that your image can easily be viewed on a computer screen.

What type of photos can be submitted?

Your photo can be located anywhere in the world and portray any style of architecture, historic to contemporary. It can show an individual detail, a whole building or an entire cityscape. As long as it portrays part or all of a building or group of buildings, it is eligible. Remember — the challenge is to tell a story with your image, so think about what narrative your photo communicates.

Submissions should be ONE photo rather than a collage, but photographic panoramas are acceptable (multiple images stitched together to form one, continuous photograph of a scene).

Can I submit more than one photo?

Yes! You can submit as many photos as you like, but each counts as a separate entry with its own entry fee.

Can my photo be of an existing building or buildings?

Yes. Your photo can illustrate a new architectural proposal or existing piece of architecture. It should capture the experience of those that would inhabit it in some way.

Can I edit or manipulate my photo using software?

Minor edits to photographs — for example, to lighten, darken, increase sharpness or clarity, tweak colors slightly, or reduce distortion — are permitted. Photo collages are not permitted, but photographic panoramas are acceptable (multiple images stitched together to form one, continuous photograph of a scene). Wholesale digital manipulation that fundamentally changes the nature of a photograph is not permitted. Judgment over a photo's eligibility in this regard is at the discretion of Architizer's in-house jury, and decisions are final. If you are unsure if your photograph is eligible, please email us at competitions@architizer.com and we'll be glad to help.

How will my photos be judged?

Submissions will be judged online according to three key criteria: Communication, aesthetics and impact. Definitions of those 3 terms can be found on the judging criteria page.

Can multiple people submit a photo as a team?

Yes! Teams of up to four can submit an entry. One person in the team must be designated the “team leader”. In the event a team wins, prize money will be given to the team leader and they will be responsible for distributing the prize among their team members.

How can I be sure you have received my entry?

You will see a confirmation page noting your entry number and will also receive a confirmation email acknowledging receipt of your entry. If you do not receive an email confirmation within 24hrs, please email competitions@architizer.com.

Can I withdraw my entry? Will I get a refund?

You may withdraw your entry by emailing competitions@architizer.com. Refunds WILL be issued for entries that are withdrawn within 48 hours of being submitted. Refunds WILL NOT be issued for entries withdrawn after 48 hours of being submitted.

Do I need to be an architect or architecture student to enter?

No, the One Photo Challenge is open to all people! The competition celebrates the architectural process and all of those who enjoy architectural photography. Students, design enthusiasts and the general public are encouraged to submit, and photos can be taken on any device, from professional cameras to smartphones.

Do I have to be based in the United States to participate?

No, the One Photo Challenge is a global awards program and anyone in the world may enter.

I just graduated. Can I enter as a Student?

Yes — Class of 2022 students that just graduated or are about to graduate can enter as Students. Please use your student email address as this will help us verify your status with your University in the event that you are selected as a Winner.

Does the entry description need to be in English?
