"Cat The Inhabitant" by Jasmine Gokmen, ,
Boyabat is an old town in Sinop, the city in the Black Sea region of Turkey. The rich history of the town extends back to the Stone Age and preserves remains from 7th century BC as well as Pontic, Roman and Byzantine times.
The old traditional houses in Boyabat are among the most characteristic buildings in Anatolia. For centuries, they were built with consideration by individual construction of artefacts of the culture of Ottomans'. They were part of the image of the family-life and neighbourhoods of the wider community. Unfortunately, they are diminishing increasingly and in need to be reclaimed, restored and eventually preserved.
Like the street cats, these houses coexist silently alongside increasingly noisy streets of Boyabat. They both look dislikable and ghostly but friendly. One being a remarkable reminder of long-forgotten honours of the past life and the other, a new host to the neglected & abandoned.
