"Natural Parasite" by Denis Liang, ,
The Serra da Arrábida is a protected nature reserve in Portugal. It encompasses the forested hills, picturesque beaches, and towering cliffs, that span the southern side of the Setúbal Peninsula. Here you can also find the infamous cement factory, digging away at its resources. How? The factory has been operating many years before Arrábida turned into a protected area.
Industrial architecture in contrast to nature has always been a point of interest in my work. Conflict can easily be found, not only ideologically but also in what these elements show in photography:The rigid and cold lines of human made structures offset the organic flow of nature. The perspective puts us in the freedom of the park but curiously peering through the trees to reveal colossal structures hidden in a restricted area, knowingly and slowly chipping away at the hills we stand on and for.
