"Rebirth of the 14th Shamarpa" by Anthony Poon, Anthony Poon,
Bodhi Path
Not long after the pictured 14th Shamarpa blessed this Buddhist temple, he passed into parinirvana, to be reborn again. With his passing, we are reminded of the Buddhist teaching of impermanence. Shamar Rinpoche, the Red Hat Lama of Tibet, understood that for a visitor, architecture serves as a vessel of memorable imprints being with the Buddha statue within. Situated atop a hill on 400 acres of a Buddhist retreat center in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia, the building was handcrafted by woodworking artisans and community labor through authentic heavy timber construction methods that transform large tree trunks without modern techniques of fabrication. This project expresses both human and spiritual hands.
