"The Perfect Intervention" by Rebecca Lehde, ,
For lovers of architecture and history, this particular intervention designed by Carlo Scarpa is a perfect marriage. This photo was taken at Castelvecchio in Verona, Italy - where the "new" (1957-1975) museum meets the historic castle (1354). Of particular significance is the way Scarpa allowed the layers of the new intervention to peal back and show the structure. Within the museum itself, the newer architecture gently touches and surrounds the historic structure. For instance, corners are held back so that it is clear where the old ends and the new begins and, as seen in this photo, even the main structural ridge just barely kisses the wall of the historic castle.
