"Toronto's Concrete Jungle" by William Loizides, ,
Cities are alive, fostering relationships with those who inhabit them. By necessity, architects must be innovative in their designs to not only create spaces in which millions of people reside and work, but to go beyond functionality to create spaces for inspired living and human connection. Bold structures that illuminate the night sky above empty Toronto streets make the city feel wide awake at all hours of the night. Amid this buzzing energy, it can be hard to find a quiet place for a moment of reflection; to be still with my own thoughts. Rooftopping became my escape, and photography a way to preserve its memory. The vantage point allows me to appreciate Toronto’s beauty and inspired me to pursue architecture, to one day add to the ever-changing landscape. Rooftops provide sufficient distance, offering just the sound of the wind to fill my ears as I watch the city breathe.
