"The Hobart Building, Market Street, San Francisco" by Charles McDonald, ,
The Hobart Building was completed in 1914 in only 11 months and was at the time the second tallest building in San Francisco at 21 floors. Architect Willis Polk (1867-1924) sculpted the building's terra cotta exterior with renaissance/Baroque ornamentation. It's interior of handcrafted brass and Italian marble is a stunning example of classical revival architecture. The Hobart Building's unusual shape was dictated by the site, which is an asymmetric polygon. The Hobart Building was designated as a landmark by the City of San Francisco in 1983 and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2021.
