"The Convent Door" by Sophia Neves, ,
On the morning of our last day in Mexico City we waited outside the Convento de las Capuchinas Sacramentarias. Distinct by its serenity and peacefulness, the elegance of Luis Barragan's works stood the test of time through the details. We saw some clues before we entered; yellow tinted glass windows and large wooden doors. The sixteen nuns that currently reside there live a humble lifestyle devoted to prayer and limited contact with a chaotic, digital world. Located in the XVII-century district of Tlalpan, the convent has camouflaged itself as a quiet home among the colorful walls of nearby houses. Our voices hushed as the silence of the capilla created a moment suspended in time and color. A work representing a lifetime journey to achieve enchantment, intimacy, and simplicity, hidden behind white walls. Here the architecture is a background to life and an visual reminder of the crucial act of reflection.
